Lent to Reduce Greenhouse Gases. HOW?
Lent to Reduce Greenhouse Gases. HOW? Posted on February 22, 12 There are many ways to reduce the footprint in each consumption category mainly food, housing, carbon and goods. It’s estimated for instance, that 18 percent of all greenhouse gas emissions globally, are associated with meat consumption. Lebanese Environmental advisor Mazen Abboud, said that "Christian lent is a real opportunity to reduce the consumption of food whose production generates large amounts of greenhouse gases that are the basis of global warming." The plant-based food is the most environmentally friendly, he says, citing the example of the production of one kilogram of beef “which leads to the emission of 13.3 kilograms of carbon dioxide.” One apple, however, only produces 550 grams of this gas," he adds. Abboud reiterates the necessity of "reducing food waste household to cut food bills."
