Gas Exploration

ABBOUD:The Gas Exploration in Lebanon could become a Liability too...

National News Agency (NNA) - 17/08/2010 – upon the completion of the gas exploration code by the Lebanese Parliament, UNADEP secretary general- Mazen ABBOUD called upon the government of Lebanon to take all the necessary legal & logistic measures to ensure the security of the Lebanese sea & coasts from any potential gas leakage during the gas drilling processes. ABBOUD indicated that gas leakage incidences may increase sea water acidity tremendously & have catastrophic effects on the marine ecology of the Mediterranean Sea in Lebanon".

ABBOUD considered that establishing a credible & efficient regulatory body for the gas exploration sector is a must to ensure the strategic interests of the Lebanon; furthermore, he indicated that only credible international companies of good history should be allowed to get into the affair; moreover, he said that concerned parties should monitor strictly the drilling processes in order to minimize the probability of occurences of gas seapage incidences in the Mediterranean sea, which is relatively a closed & overpopulated sea.
