Mazen Abboud Wished Hariri Success

Mazen ABBOUD, a UNEP-MAP consultant wished, the designated Premier- Saad Hariri, success in carrying out national duties as a prime minister.
ABBOUD urged HARIRI in the same press release issued today, to nominate a knowledgeable & qualified person for the environment ministry; he considered that the cost of environmental degradation in Lebanon, as estimated by the World Bank, is around 0.5 billion dollars per year. ABBOUD said that the resulting high cost will have its impacts on the sustainability of the tourism sector in the country, whcih is the pillar of the Lebanese Economy.
Finally, he urged Lebanes decision makers to consider adopting more objective selection criteria for the key positions in the country, which are based not only on political (patron-client) factors but also on personal qualifications.

متفرقات - مازن عبود تمنى لرئيس الحكومة المكلف الفلاح في مهامه وطنية-30/6/2009
تمنى مستشار برنامج الامم المتحدة للبيئة مازن عبود في بيان اصدره اليوم، لرئيس الحكومة المكلف الفلاح في مهامه بغية ارساء الاستقرار والتنمية في البلد. كما تمنى على رئيس الجمهورية والرئيس المكلف للحكومة العتيدة الذي نضع عليه امالا كبيرة بوصفه يحمل فيروس الشباب والتقدم والتغيير، الحرص على تسمية وزير للبيئة يتمتع بالحد الادنى من المعرفة والمحبة لشؤون وشجون القطاع. وقد ذكر عبود بأن اكلاف التدهور البيئي الناتج عن السياسات الخاطئة بلغت بحسب البنك الدولي اكثر من نصف مليار دولار سنويا فأضحى يشكل عبئا وخطرا على ديمومة السياحة والتنمية في البلد. واخيرا دعا رجال السياسة الى حجز بعض المواقع التقنية لاهل الكفاءة بغض النظر عن معايير الزبائنية الضيقة.
