Seniora Stressed on Roles of Civil Society during Douma Visit

Caretaker-Prime Minister Fuad SENIORA capped a day visit to Batroun Casa in a ceremony, which was held at Douma municipality. In his speech to the town people SENIORA stressed on the importance of Douma model that is known for its political diversity, civil society strong role, democratic practices & openness to East & West. Moreover, the prime minister saluted what he called “the Moon Town” (Douma) people’s struggle throughout history for a free, independent, & sovereign country. The ceremony was attended by Parliament Member Butros HARB, President of CDR Nabil ELJISR & the Deputy Attorney general of the Court of Audit Marwan ABBOUD.
The Mayor of the Town, Joseph KHAIRALLAH MAALUF who gave a welcome speech thanked SENIORA for his efforts for the country as well as for the Batroun & the town, took SENIORA. Furthermore, IPI member & UNEP-MAP consultant, Mazen ABBOUD, addressed the prime minister, in a short statement, urging him to work for a more democratic & modern civil state, which give an equal opportunity to all its citizens. In addition, ABBOUD considered that the people of Lebanon are getting accustomed to the absence of an operating council of ministers.
Then SENIORA went on a guided tour to Douma Market Place, met the locals & discussed their needs. It is worth mentioning that the council for Development & Reconstruction (CDR) is working on finding funds to restore Douma Old Market to become an attraction for national tourism.
