The 24th of October, 2007
On the 24th of October of every year, the Global Village celebrates with hope & respect UN Day. They remember the founding fathers of this sixty one year old organization that is the umbrella Organization of world nations. UN was established in 1945 following the end of second world two, as a way to deter war & to settle conflicts peacefully among nations of the earth. It was the dream of President ROOSEVELT, come true. It stemmed from the firm believes of its Founders that there will be no space for wars, no blood shedding & no place for inequality in this global village no more. However, Humanity is still thriving amidst a sea of problems & oceans of wars & conflicts. Sixty one winters & springs went by meaninglessly!!! Wars are still rejuvenating in more hostile forms. Violent acts are mutating in more aggressive ways. The last era was not but a continuation of the story of a tormented humanity that asks for peace & bids for wars.
@ The onset, UN Role was mainly political. However, it developed to gain more momentum in the Sustainable Development Fields. Climate Change that is supposedly a sibling of the Global Warming is endangering Humanity. Sea Levels are increasing leading to the formation of Katrina(s) & Tsunamis. This is all because men are not abiding by the Law of Nature. Kyoto Convention was a breakthrough toward establishing a legal frame work for limiting the use of fossil fuel & thus gas emissions. However, this is only a starting point. Great nations such as the United Nations of America are supposed to take the lead to save the earth just as recognition to President ROOSEVELT & to the principle that inspired the founding of the American Nation. I do not know if the hole in the ozone layer abides by the policies or the rules of the republicans. USA is asked nowadays to give the good example to the World & prove that it is ruling it not exploiting it. President BUSH administration is supposed to take immediate actions & stop hostilities against the Air, by Ratifying the KYOTO Protocol.
I do not know in this glory day if UN old Making Philosophy still matches with the requirements of this new era; whereby the enemy to human kind & world sustainable peace stopped to be a member state. And it became an intra state monster, so called "Terrorism". I do not know if these sixty one years of UN Life time were only sixty one days or even sixty one hours or sixty one minutes in the Human Kind Life Time!!!
On this Day, I do say that the distance walked by UN to achieve its goals is still minor, as minor as the distance between religious sects & their religions or in other words as far as human kind is far a way from God.
